The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
