The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 and taught to him 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
