The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
