۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 Often will those who disbelieve wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and for aspiration to involve them in play – so they will shortly come to know. 3 Whenever We destroyed a town, a definite term had previously been decreed for it. 4 No people can hasten or delay the term already fixed for them. 5 They say: 'Thou, upon whom the Remembrance is sent down, thou art assuredly possessed! 6 “Why do you not bring angels to us, if you are truthful?” 7 We do not send down the angels (in frivolity); and when We do send them down, We do so with Truth; then people are granted no respite. 8 We Ourselves have revealed the Quran and We are its Protectors. 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 But never once an apostle came to them at whom they did not scoff. 11 Thus do We make it to enter into the hearts of the guilty; 12 That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away. 13 And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it, 14 Even then they would say, “Our sights have been hypnotised – in fact, a magic spell has been cast upon us.” 15
