The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 About the Great News 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
