When the messengers came to Lot and his family, 61 he said to them: 'I do not know you' 62 They said, 'Nay, but we have brought thee that concerning which they were doubting. 63 And bring thee the Truth, and lo! we are truth-tellers. 64 so leave with your family some time in the latter part of the night, and walk behind them. Let none of you look back. Go where you are commanded." 65 We issued this command to him, for they were going to be destroyed in the morning. 66 Then came the people of the city, exulting at the news. 67 Exclaimed [Lot]: "Behold, these are my guests: so put me not to shame, 68 Fear God and do not shame me." 69 They said, "Did we not forbid you to extend hospitality to strangers?" 70 He said, "These women of our tribe are my daughters, if you have to." 71 By your life! In their drunkenness they were truly blind. 72 At sunrise a dreadful Shout seized them. 73 And We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay. 74 Indeed in this are signs for people who perceive. 75 And lo! it is upon a road still uneffaced. 76 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the believers. 77 And the people of Aykah were also wrong-doers. 78 We therefore took revenge from them; and indeed both these townships are situated on an open road. 79
