And recite to them the news of Ibrahim. 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They said, "We worship idols and will continue to cling to them." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 (Abraham) said, "Do you know that what you worship 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink. 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 And uphold my name with posterity, 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 And do not disgrace me on the day when they are raised from the graves, 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 Unless it be he, who shall bring unto Allah a whole heart, 89 When Paradise shall be brought near to the God-fearing 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 Disputing among themselves they will say: 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 when we deemed you [false deities] equal to the Sustainer of all the worlds 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 and no sincere friend. 101 Would that we might return again, and be among the believers' 102 In this there is evidence (of the truth), but many of them do not have any faith. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
