These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
