The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 abasing, exalting, 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On lined couches, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit abundant. 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
