Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In a high Garden 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And arranged carpets. 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
