The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 A dwelling place for the Taghun (those who transgress the boundry limits set by Allah like polytheists, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, hyprocrites, sinners, criminals, etc.), 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
