The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. 3 To whom the angels and the soul take a day to ascend, whose length is fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 But We see it very near. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And the family in which he was. 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 Eager to roast; 16 Calling: "[O Kafir (O disbeliever in Allah, His angels, His Book, His Messengers, Day of Resurrection and in Al-Qadar (Divine Preordainments), O Mushrik (O polytheist, disbeliever in the Oneness of Allah)] (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from Faith) [picking and swallowing them up from that great gathering of mankind (on the Day of Resurrection) just as a bird picks up a food-grain from the earth with its beak and swallows it up] [Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 18, Page 289] 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he grows niggardly. 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits-- 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
