Thamud denied the messengers 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 “Will you be left peacefully in these favours over here?” 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly; 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
