The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 Verily We! We shewed him the way; then he becometh either thankful or ingrate. 3 Lo! We have prepared for disbelievers manacles and carcans and a raging fire. 4 But the righteous shall drink of a goblet mixed with camphor; 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, 6 They fulfil their pledges, and fear a day the evil of which is widespread. 7 And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,- 8 (Saying): "We feed you for the sake of God, desiring neither recompense nor thanks. 9 "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." 10 So Allah will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness 11 and will reward them for their steadfastness with Paradise and robes of silk. 12 They will recline therein on couches and they will find neither excessive heat nor cold. 13 the shading branches of trees will come down low over them, and their clusters of fruit, will hang down where they are the easiest to reach. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver, and goblets of crystal, 15 crystal-like, [but] of silver - the measure whereof they alone will determine. 16 And they shall be made to drink therein a cup the admixture of which shall be ginger, 17 therein a fountain whose name is called Salsabil. 18 ۞ There boys of everlasting youth shall go about attending them: when you see them, you would think that they are scattered pearls. 19 when thou seest them then thou seest bliss and a great kingdom. 20 On their bodies will be garments of the finest green silk and brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give them a purest draught to drink. 21 (And it will be said to them): "Verily, this is a reward for you, and your endeavour has been accepted." 22
