۞ It is He Who created you from a single person, and made his mate of like nature, in order that he might dwell with her (in love). When they are united, she bears a light burden and carries it about (unnoticed). When she grows heavy, they both pray to Allah their Lord, (saying): "If Thou givest us a goodly child, we vow we shall (ever) be grateful." 189 But when He gives them a good one, they set up with Him associates in what He has given them; but high is Allah above what they associate (with Him). 190 Do they attribute as partners to Allah those who created nothing but they themselves are created? 191 and neither are able to give them succour nor can succour themselves, 192 If you call them to guidance, they will not follow you. It is the same whether you call them or you are silent. 193 Verily, those whom you call upon besides Allah are slaves like you. So call upon them and let them answer you if you are truthful. 194 Do they have feet to walk on, or hands to hold with, or eyes to see and ears to hear with? Say to them: "Call your compeers, and work out a plot against me, and do not give me time. 195 Indeed, my protector is Allah, who has sent down the Book; and He is an ally to the righteous. 196 Those whom you call on besides Him have no power to help you, nor can they help themselves." 197 If you call them to the guidance they do not hear; and thou seest them looking at thee, unperceiving. 198 Have forgiveness, preach the truth, and keep away from the ignorant ones. 199 And O listener! If the devil provokes you, seek the refuge of Allah; indeed He is All Hearing, All Knowing. 200 Verily, they who are conscious of God bethink themselves [of Him] whenever any dark suggestion from Satan touches them - whereupon, lo! they begin to see [things] clearly, 201 but the followers of devils are led relentlessly into error by them. They never desist. 202 When you do not bring them a sign, they say, "Why do you not invent one?" Say, "I follow only what is revealed to me by my Lord. This Book is an enlightenment from your Lord and a guide and mercy to true believers. 203 So when the Qur'an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy. 204 And remember thou thy Lord within thyself with humility and fear, without loudness in word, in the morning and evenings; and be thou not of the negligent. 205 Those who are with your Lord are not too proud to worship Him. They exalt Him and to Him they prostrate. ۩ 206
