He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 olives, dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
