Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
