The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it; 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 when the most wretched of them uprose, 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they rejected his statement as a lie and hamstrung the she-camel. For that crime their Lord rumbled down upon them, utterly razing them to the ground. 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
