By the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 And the dawn when it shineth forth, 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 it is a warning to man, 36 a warning to everyone of you whether he would like to come forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul is pledged to what it does, 38 except those of the right hand 39 who will be in Paradise 40 About the guilty: 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 Nor did we feed the wretched. 44 "And we used to talk falsehood (all that which Allah hated) with vain talkers. 45 and we denied the Day of Judgement 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 So what is the matter with them that they turn away from the advice? 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 fleeing before a lion? 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). 52 This will certainly never be the case! In fact, they are not afraid of the Day of Judgment. 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
