Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 and goblets laid out, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
