Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 So enter among My servants, 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
