The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky bursts open, 1 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed; 2 And when the earth shall be stretched forth. 3 And casts forth what is within it and becomes (clean) empty, 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 And as for him whose record shall be placed in his right hand, 7 He surely will receive an easy reckoning, 8 And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 He will invoke (his) destruction, 11 And he shall roast into a Blaze. 12 Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing! 13 he surely thought he would never revert. 14 Yea indeed! His Sustainer did see all that was in him! 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 And [by] the moon when it becomes full 18 Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer. 19 So, what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 And Allah knows best what they gather (of good and bad deeds), 23 Therefore give them the glad tidings of a painful punishment. 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
