Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Enter among My servants 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
