And they ask you, [O Muhammad], about Dhul-Qarnayn. Say, "I will recite to you about him a report." 83 We had given him great power in the land and all kinds of resources. 84 So he followed a certain road 85 Till, when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and found a people thereabout. We said: O Dhu'l-Qarneyn! Either punish or show them kindness. 86 He said: "I shall punish whosoever is wicked. He will then be sent back to his Lord who will inflict on him a terrible punishment. 87 But as for him who believes, and does righteousness, he shall receive as recompense the reward most fair, and we shall speak to him, of our command, easiness.' 88 And once again he chose the right means [to achieve a right end]. 89 to the East where he found the sun rising upon a people whom We had exposed to its rays. 90 Even so! and We had a full knowledge of what he had. 91 Then he set out on another expedition 92 Till, when he came between the two mountains, he found upon their hither side a folk that scarce could understand a saying. 93 They said: O Zul-Qarnain verily Yajuj and Majuj are working corruption in the land; shall we then pay thee tribute on condition that thou place between us and them a barrier! 94 He replied, "The power that my Lord has granted me is better (than your tax). Help me with your man-power and I shall construct a barrier between you and Gog and Magog. 95 Bring me sheets of iron" - until, when he had leveled [them] between the two mountain walls, he said, "Blow [with bellows]," until when he had made it [like] fire, he said, "Bring me, that I may pour over it molten copper." 96 So they were not able to scale it nor could they make a hole in it. 97 "This is the benevolence of my Lord," he said; "but when the promise of my Lord comes to pass, He will reduce it to a mound of dust; and the promise of my Lord is true." 98 ۞ And on that day We shall release them in groups surging like waves one after another, and the Trumpet will be blown – so We shall gather them all together. (* Gog and Magog will come out during the time of Eisa (Jesus – when he comes back to earth) and cause great destruction in the land.) 99 And We will present Hell that Day to the Disbelievers, on display - 100 whose eyes were covered against My remembrance, and they were not able to hear. 101
