O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and who still desires more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked round; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 Burning the skins! 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
