The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 arise, and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
