He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to a rich man, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
