The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 there is no denying its coming 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A multitude of those of old 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On studded thrones. 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
