The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ THE MOST GRACIOUS 1 has taught the Koran. 2 He created man. 3 He taught him eloquent speech. 4 The sun and the moon move according to a fixed reckoning; 5 The stars and the trees prostrate. 6 He raised the heavens and set up the measure, 7 In order that you may not corrupt the balance. 8 And establish the measures justly, nor decrease the due weight. 9 And earth -- He set it down for all beings, 10 therein fruits, and palm-trees with sheaths, 11 and a variety of corn with both husk and grain. 12 O which of your Lord's bounties will you and you deny? 13 He has created man out of sounding clay, like pottery, 14 And He created the jinn from a smokeless flame of fire. 15 How many favours of your Lord will you then deny? 16 He is the Lord of the East and West through all seasons. 17 Which of the powers of your Lord will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny? 18 He hath let loose the two seas. 19 Between them is a barrier which none of them can transgress. 20 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 21 Pearls and coral-stone come forth from them. 22 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 23 Also, His are the ships that run, raised up like mountains upon the sea. 24 Which of the favours of your Lord will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny? 25
