Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Have you received the news of the Enveloper? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In a high Garden. 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 And cups set at hand. 14 well-placed cushions, 15 And linen spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
