The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
