The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
AN INQUIRER ASKED for the affliction that is to come 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 but, We see it as near! 7 [It will take place] on a Day when the sky will be like molten lead, 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 His wife and his brother, 12 and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him, 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 save those that pray 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened); 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 and those who guard their private parts, 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits-- 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
