Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I CALL TO witness the dawn 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
