The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour of Resurrection drew near and the moon split asunder. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end. 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 profound in wisdom, but all warnings have been of no avail: 5 So turn away from them, (O Prophet). On the Day when a caller shall call them to a thing most terrible, 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.” 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 Thereupon he called out to his Sustainer, "Verily, I am defeated; come Thou, then, to my succour!" 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We made water to flow forth in the land in springs, so the water gathered together according to a measure already ordained. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 running before Our eyes-a recompense for him denied. 14 We made (the story of Noah) as evidence of the Truth. However, is there anyone who would take heed? 15 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 The people of 'Ad too rejected the truth. How terrible was My punishment and My warning. 18 For We sent against them a furious wind, on a Day of violent Disaster, 19 it swept the people away as though they were palm-trunks uprooted: 20 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
