Said the Chiefs of the people of Pharaoh: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed. 109 He would drive you forth from your land; so what is it that ye enjoin? 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and said: 'Shall we have a reward if we win?' 113 He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." 114 They said: O Musa! will you cast, or shall we be the first to cast? 115 'Throw' he replied. And when they threw, they bewitched the people's eyes and terrified them, and produced great sorcery. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. 118 The magicians who were defeated on the spot and were proved to be worthless, 119 And the magicians were obliged to fall prostrate. 120 and said, "We believe in the Lord of the Universe, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 Surely I will cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides and thereafter I will crucify you all. 124 They said: Lo! We are about to return unto our Lord! 125 "The only reason you have to hate us is that we believed in the signs of our Lord as they came to us. O our Lord, give us sufficient endurance that we may die submitting (to You)." 126
