The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 then came down close 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
