The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 it will be a hard day 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
