The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I CALL TO witness the heavens and the night Star -- 1 and what could make you know what it is that comes in the night? 2 It is the shining star -- 3 There is no soul which is not guarded (by the two angels who record all of its deeds). 4 So let man consider of what he is created: 5 He was created from a fluid, ejected, 6 Issuing from (the pelvis) between the backbone and the ribs. 7 Lo! He verily is Able to return him (unto life) 8 The Day that (all) things secret will be tested, 9 He will have no strength or helper. 10 By the heaven with its recurring cycle of rain, 11 by the earth cracking open with new growth. 12 surely it is a decisive word; 13 not a flippant jest. 14 They are hatching up a plot, 15 But I too am devising a plan. 16 So bear with unbelievers with patience, and give them respite for a while. 17
