The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what ask they? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
