Some of the Pharaoh's nobles considered him to be no more than a skillful magician 109 Who would expel you from your land. Now what do ye advise? 110 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send announcers to the cities to gather people.” 111 who shall bring before thee every sorcerer of great knowledge." 112 And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 113 He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He replied, "Throw yours first." Their great magic bewitched people's eyes and terrified them. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 But Pharaoh said: "You have come to accept belief in Him without my permission! This surely is a plot you have hatched to expel the people from the land. You will soon come to know. 123 "Be sure I will cut off your hands and your feet on apposite sides, and I will cause you all to die on the cross." 124 They said, 'Surely unto our Lord we are turning. 125 And you do not take revenge on us except because we have believed in the communications of our Lord when they came to us! Our Lord: Pour out upon us patience and cause us to die in submission. 126
