The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
