When the Messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 he said: "Surely you are an unknown folk." 62 They said: "Nay, we have come to you with that (torment) which they have been doubting. 63 And we have brought unto thee the truth, and verily we say sooth. 64 "So leave with your family late in the night, yourself remaining in the rear, and let none turn back to look, and go where you will be commanded." 65 And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn. 66 And there came the people of the city rejoicing 67 Said Lot: "These are my guests; do not put me to shame, 68 Fear Allah and do not disgrace me' 69 They said, 'Have we not forbidden thee all beings?' 70 [Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]." 71 By your life, (O Prophet), they went about blindly stumbling in their intoxication. 72 So they were seized by the mighty blast at break of day; 73 And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay. 74 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the prudent ones. 75 And indeed, those cities are [situated] on an established road. 76 Verily in that is a sign for the believers. 77 Since the People of the Forest were unjust, 78 So We took vengeance on them. And verily both are on a high-road open. 79
