۞ And set forth to them a parable of two men; for one of them We made two gardens of grape vines, and We surrounded them both with palms, and in the midst of them We made cornfields. 32 each garden produced its fruit and did not fail to yield its best; We even caused a river to gush forth in the midst of them, 33 so he had fruit. As he spoke with his companion, as he was conversing with him, 'My wealth is more abundant than yours and men have a greater respect for me' 34 And he went into his garden while in a state (of pride and disbelief) unjust to himself. He said: "I think not that this will ever perish. 35 And neither do I think that the Last Hour will ever come. But even if [it should come, and] I am brought before my Sustainer, I will surely find something even better than this as [my last] resort!" 36 His friend said to him, "How can you disbelieve in the One who turned clay into sperm out of which He created you? 37 He is Allah, my Lord, and I will not associate anyone with My Lord. 38 Why, when thou wentest into thy garden, didst thou not say, "As God will; there is no power except in God"? If thou seest me, that I am less than thou in wealth and children, 39 Then maybe my Lord will give me what is better than your garden, and send on it a thunderbolt from heaven so that it shall become even ground without plant, 40 Or some morning the water thereof will be lost in the earth so that thou canst not make search for it. 41 And his fruit was all encompassed, and in the morning he was wringing his hands for that he had expended upon it, and it was fallen down upon its trellises, and he was saying, 'Would I had not associated with my Lord any one!' 42 And there was no host, beside Allah, to help him, nor could he be of any help to himself. 43 In this case is protection only from Allah, the True, He is Best for reward, and best for consequence. 44
