A multitude of those of old 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 They were endowed with good things 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
