Nay, by the Moon 32 By the receding night 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 A warning for people -- 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, 38 except those of the right hand 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 "Nor we used to feed Al-Miskin (the poor); 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition 49 as if they were startled asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out; 52 Never! In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 By no means! Verily this Qur'an is an admonition. 54 So, whoever wills may benefit from it. 55 And they will not heed unless Allah willeth (it). He is the fount of fear. He is the fount of Mercy. 56
