The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and all those on earth. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 and who guard their prayers [from all worldly intent]. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
