I told them, "Messengers, eat from the pure things and act righteously; I know all that you do. 51 And indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so fear Me." 52 But the people divided their religion among them into sects - each faction, in what it has, rejoicing. 53 So leave them immersed in their heedlessness till an appointed time. 54 Do they think that in giving them wealth and children 55 We hasten unto them with good things? Nay, but they perceive not. 56 Verily those who live in awe for fear of their Lord; 57 who have full faith in the Signs of their Lord; 58 Those who join not (in worship) partners with their Lord; 59 and those who give what they give, their hearts quaking that they are returning to their Lord -- 60 Are the ones who hasten to goodness and outpace the others. 61 And [withal.] We do not burden any human being with more than he is well able to bear: for with Us is a record that speaks the truth [about what men do and can do]; and none shall be wronged. 62 But their hearts are in ignorance of this (Koran); and they have deeds besides that which they are doing. 63 until We seize with Our chastisement those of them that are given to luxuriant ways. They will then begin to groan. 64 Do not cry out for help this day, for surely you shall not be helped by Us. 65 "My Signs used to be rehearsed to you, but ye used to turn back on your heels- 66 waxing proud against it, talking foolish talk by night.' 67 Have they, then, never tried to understand this word [of God]? Or has there [now] come to them something that never came to their forefathers of old? 68 Or, is it that they recognised not their apostle, and so of him they become deniers? 69 Or, say they: in him is madness? O Aye he brought them the truth, and most of them to the truth are averse. 70 But if the truth were in accord with their own likes and dislikes, the heavens and the earth would surely have fallen into ruin, and all that lives in them [would long ago have perished]! Nay, [in this divine writ] We have conveyed unto them all that they ought to bear in mind: and from this their reminder they [heedlessly] turn away! 71 Or, is it that thou askest of them any maintenance? The maintenance of thy Lord is better, and He is the Best of providers. 72 And verily, thou callest them onto a straight way 73 But indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter are deviating from the path. 74 ۞ And though We have mercy on them We may remove whatsoever of hurt is with them, surely they would persist in their exorbitance, wandering perplexed. 75 We seized them with the punishment, but they did not surrender to their Lord, nor will they humble themselves 76 until We open before them a gate of harsh punishment and then they will be dumbfounded. 77
