And recite to them the news of Ibrahim. 69 Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said, “Do you see these (the idols) whom you worship?” 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 He who cures me when I am ill; 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 And Who, I ardently hope, will forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment. 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 and grant me the power to convey the truth unto those who will come after me, 84 And make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss 85 And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring; 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 When Paradise shall be brought near to the God-fearing 90 And Hell made visible to those who had gone astray. 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 And the soldiers of Iblees, all together. 95 They will say while they dispute therein, 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 And now we have none to intercede for us, 100 “Nor a caring friend.” 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 104
