And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 'Do they hear you when you call on them' He asked. 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They exclaimed: But we found our forefathers doing the same!" 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 “And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement.” 82 My Lord! bestow on me wisdom and join me with the righteous. 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 “And do not disgrace me on the day when everyone will be raised.” 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 And the Garden shall be brought nigh to the God-fearing. 90 and the Fire will be uncovered for those who strayed, 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and the hosts of Iblis - all together. 95 And they will say, and they will be quarrelling in it: 96 'By God, we were certainly in manifest error 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 So now we have no intercessors 100 nor a loving friend. 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 104
