۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 “Instead of Allah – and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 "But stop them, verily they are to be questioned. 24 "How is it that [now] you cannot succour one another?" 25 Nay! on that Day they will be entirely submissive. 26 They will then turn towards each other (and start wrangling). 27 These say, 'Why, you of old would come to us from the right hand.' 28 They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers. 29 we had no power over you; but you yourselves were a rebellious people. 30 But now our Lord's word has come true against us: truly, we are bound to taste [the punishment]. 31 We led you astray as we were ourselves astray." 32 So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 for when it was said to them, 'There is no god but God,' they were ever waxing proud, 35 And said: Shall we forsake our gods for a mad poet? 36 No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. 37 You shall certainly taste the painful punishment: 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 But the bondmen of Allah, the sincere ones 40 For them awaits a known provision, 41 Fruits! And they shall be honoured. 42 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise), 43 Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity): 44 With cups from a flowing stream being passed around, 45 White, delicious to those who drink. 46 no headiness will be in it, and they will not get drunk thereon. 47 And with them are those who do not set gaze upon men except their husbands, the maidens with gorgeous eyes. 48 (Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich). 49 Then they will turn to one another, mutually questioning. 50 One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth), 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be requited?" 53 [And] he adds: "Would you like to look [and see him]?" 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 'By God', he said, 'you had almost ruined me. 56 But for the Favor of Allah I should have surely been among those who were arraigned (with you in Hell). 57 But then, [O my friends in paradise,] is it [really] so that we are not to die 58 Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised? 59 Surely this is the supreme triumph. 60 For the like of this, then, let them labour, those who labour [in God's way]! 61 Is that better as a hospitality, or the Tree of Ez-Zakkoum? 62 We have made this tree a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 Surely it is a tree that-grows in the bottom of the hell; 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 The dwellers of hell will eat that fruit and fill-up their bellies. 66 And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water 67 then their return is to Hell. 68 Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path; 69 and [now] they make haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 Most of the ancient people had also gone astray. 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned, 73 Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 74
